TARGET SCORE - STROKE PLAY DAYS
New for 2026 - Your Target Score is the score you should aim for based on your handicap index and the tees you are playing. Think of it as your personal "Par for the Day." When you hit your target, it is a good day on the golf course! You have shot to your playing ability based on your handicap index. Only 15-20% of the time will you reach your target score, so don't let one hole ruin your round, re-focus and try to make up strokes on the next hole.
How to determine your Course Handicap:
Using your GHIN app select Handicap Calculator. Select the course, number of holes, and tees you are playing. The App uses the information you have selected along with your Handicap Index (HI) to determine your Course Handicap (CH).
Course Handicap + Par = Target Score*
Example- A player with a CH of 40 for 18 holes has a CH of 20 for 9 holes
Course Handicap 20 + Par 36 = 56* (4 tees)
Course Handicap 20 + Par 33 = 53* (5 tees)
What does this mean?
*Shoot your Target Score = Great round for you!
*Beat your Target Score = Outstanding round for you!
*Higher than Target Score = Course wins! That's golf!
NOTE- Tournaments and Scrambles use a percentage of your course handicap. This adjusted number is called a Playing Handicap and is used to keep competition fair.
Getting a birdie is a big deal!! Please report any birdie you have scored during a Niner's event to the Pro Shop staff. Birdie tags will be hung on the birdie tree in the ladies’ locker room by Daphne Wilkerson, Birdie Tree Official. Tags will indicate the player's name and the number of birdies. At the season's end, a prize will be awarded to the Niner with the most birdies.
